Ski mask size guide
A ski mask sits close to the face: measured right, it holds without squeezing and the openings fall in the right place. For a custom HOODLUMROUGE piece, a few measurements are enough, and they take two minutes with a tape measure.
The main measurement: head circumference
- Take a soft (sewing) tape measure. Failing that, a piece of string that you then measure flat against a ruler.
- Wrap the tape around your head, just above the eyebrows and ears, and at the back over the widest point of the skull.
- The tape should lie flat, without squeezing: you should be able to slip a finger under it.
- Write down the measurement in centimeters, then measure once more to check.
Other useful measurements
- Neck circumference — at the base of the neck, where the ski mask will end.
- Face height — from the top of the forehead (hairline) down to the chin.
- Eye spacing — if you want fitted openings: the distance between the outer corners of both eyes.
HOODLUMROUGE pieces are one size: these measurements are only useful if you have a doubt (a larger head, voluminous hair), to discuss it at the appointment.
Reference points: head circumference and standard sizes
In hat sizing, the size of a beanie or cap matches the head circumference in centimeters (a size 57 = 57 cm). The letters S, M, L cover ranges that vary from brand to brand; here are the most common reference points, to help you place yourself:
| Head circumference | Standard size |
|---|---|
| 53–54 cm | XS |
| 55–56 cm | S |
| 57–58 cm | M |
| 59–60 cm | L |
| 61–62 cm | XL |
These reference points are there to help you place yourself, not to order from: for a custom piece, what counts is your measurement in centimeters.
The most common measuring mistakes
- Pulling the tape tight: the measurement comes out 1 to 2 cm too small and the ski mask squeezes your forehead.
- Measuring over the ears: the tape should go just above them, not on them.
- Forgetting a big hairstyle (bun, braids, locs): mention it at the appointment, the ski mask will need to allow for it.
Sizes of the pieces in the collection
Knit stretches, but embroidery stiffens it in places: a heavily embroidered piece gives less than a plain balaclava. That's why measurements are discussed at the appointment, piece by piece.
All pieces in the collection are one size.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose the right size?
Head circumference is the main measurement; the rest is discussed at the appointment. The size guide explains how to take them.
Does an embroidered knit ski mask lose its shape?
Knit stretches, but heavily embroidered areas stretch less: that's why measurements are discussed at the appointment. To keep its shape, wash it by hand and dry it flat — never hung up, never in the dryer (see the care guide).
