About HOODLUMROUGE

HOODLUMROUGE is a balaclava brand. The idea is simple: take a garment associated with anonymity and turn it into an object unlike any other — embroidered, drawn, signed with a phrase, and meant for one person only.

The approach

Every ski mask is a one-of-a-kind piece, made in mixed media: textile work on the knit, and illustration work. The vocabulary comes back from one piece to the next — skulls, mouths full of teeth, stitched scars, binary code, letters — but it's never applied the same way twice.

Each piece also comes with a phrase, sometimes in another language: in French, in Esperanto, in Russian, and even in binary (the one on Nº 4 reads “Plutonium Music”).

HOODLUMROUGE is a clothing and accessories brand that only makes one-of-a-kind pieces. The idea: to offer an accessory that carries an artist's vision, belongs to one person, and lets its wearer stay anonymous. Each piece is conceived as an artifact: an object meant to gain value over time, and to serve as a currency of exchange.

Handmade, piece by piece

The embroidery is thick and deliberately irregular, with threads left loose: these are traces of the hand, not flaws. Depending on the piece, the knit is orlon (an acrylic fiber) or wool, worked with cotton and silk. Every piece is delivered in its own box, one-of-a-kind as well: those of Nº 3 and 7 are cardboard covered with small drawn skulls, sealed with wax.

Who they're made for

The ski masks in the collection were made for specific people — Zougor, Sk Error 404, Nazrat 777 — and their lettering often keeps a trace of that. The online collection is their archive: every piece stays there, even once sold.
